A recognized qualification (REQV 13) in Education (degree or diploma); A recognised degree with Afrikaans as a major; At least 3 years’ secondary teaching experience; CAPS training; SACE registration; A valid code 8 driver’s licence
In-depth knowledge and teaching experience of other school subjects at secondary level; Home language speaker; Proficiency in English; Management and supervisory experience; School library involvement
Within the line function of the Senior Education Specialist: Library Enhancement Services, identify, source, select for purchase, evaluate, review, and recommend suitable and relevant library resources in print, audio-visual and e-format. Act as curator (source, select, pre-evaluate, grade, edit and upload) of fiction/literature and subject content for the WCED e-portal; Assist Senior Curriculum Planners (SCPs) at Head Office in sourcing and selecting suitable e-content as specified by the SCP/CAPS Curriculum; Pre-evaluate and grade selected e-content; Edit e-content on the e-Portal (correcting mistakes, updating content as required and deleting content on request); Upload recommended e-content to the e-Portal; Identify gaps, suggest projects to develop e-content as required and propose improvements on the e-Portal platform Create reviews of recommended library resources (e- and print) for learners and educators to access online; Produce thematic bibliographies and subject specific lists to introduce learners and subject educators to available library resources (e- and print); Contribute to collection building (e- and print) in school libraries, resource centres and mobile libraries; Support schools with procurement and/or purchasing of library resources (e- and print) from Norms and Standards funding, donations or own funds by providing customised lists of recommended titles; Undertake centralised bulk purchasing of library resources (e- and print), subject to special project funding, for distribution to schools; Anticipate new educational trends, both locally and internationally, to build and maintain a dynamic EDULIS collection (e- and print); Participate in displays at workshops for WCED officials and/or educators with the Senior Education Specialist: Virtual and Physical Library Services; Guide and stimulate students at higher education faculties (Education and Library and Information Science) to ensure continuous use of library resources (e- and print) by educators and school librarians entering the teaching profession; Collaborate with Curriculum to link school library resources (e- and print)to the curriculum; Interact with other education role players and with local and national reading- and library-related organisations to promote literacy and a love of reading for enjoyment; Serve on WCED prescription committees to contribute from the LTSM perspective; Maintain supportive relationships with publishers and booksellers to ensure ongoing access to current LTSM; Promote EDULIS resources, services, DBE initiatives, school library celebrations and events; Assist with EDULIS library projects when required; Perform diverse administrative tasks
