An appropriate Social Science (History and/or Geography) education qualification (REQV 13) plus 8 years Social Sciences/History or Geography teaching or Curriculum Support. Sound knowledge of the NCS/CAPS: Social Sciences/History/Geography and extensive knowledge of the Assessment policies and practices, White Paper 5 and White Paper 6. An understanding of transformation issues and capacity building processes in education. Proven experience in managing projects and finances and the ability to plan strategically. Computer literate in Word, Power Point and Excel. Analytical and report writing skills. Registration with SACE. A Valid drivers license. Strong verbal, written and communication skills.
Manage and mediate the implementation of the Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase Social Sciences National Curriculum Statement (NCS) in all Public Ordinary, Public Special Schools and Online Schools within the Western Cape Education Department. Provide inputs into the development of the Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase Social Sciences NCF and NCS on a continuous basis. Develop the Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase Social Sciences curriculum implementation plans and frameworks in line with the NCF, NCS within the GET. Provide the Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase Social Sciences support and guidance with regards to the implementation of NCF, NCS and Multi-Grade Education to Education Districts and in specific Social Sciences Subject Advisors. Oversee the monitoring support and evaluation of Social Sciences curriculum delivery in Public Ordinary Schools, Public Special Schools and Online Schools. Designing, support and monitoring of curriculum training done by accredited and approved training providers to ensure alignment and quality with curriculum policy. Manage and Mediate Social Sciences Policy and pedagogy in the Intermediate and Senior Phases. Monitor, support and evaluate all the Social Sciences provincial interventions within the GET. Manage and coordinate the distribution and mediation of national policies and procedures to all relevant stakeholders in the subject Social Sciences. Develop and implement assessment and moderation frameworks in line with NCS Represent the WCED in national and other structures. Assist the directorate to plan and report on key deliverables to all stakeholders. Unpack and facilitate the curriculum, develop teaching materials such as Annual Teaching Plans and Lessons Plans etc., Identify relevant LTSM to be used in Social Sciences, train Subject Advisors and teachers, develop operational plans and write reports, maintain a vibrant e- learning curriculum webpage, establish and sustain appropriate structures such as Subject Committees and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), facilitate constructive relationships with external partners in education in both government and nongovernmental sectors, establish controls to manage own project budget.
Knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum Statement: CAPS in particular the Intermediate and Senior Phase curriculum that focuses on the key issues of Social Sciences. Cross-field knowledge and experience in research, teacher and materials development. Experience in networking with relevant stakeholders in the Intermediate Phase, Senior Phase, Further Education and Training and Higher Education Institutions. Knowledge and understanding of all relevant education legislation and policies. A commitment to participative management.
