To operate cameras (video and still photography), sound equipment and editing equipment for the production of promotional, training, learner support videos, or other video productions as required by the Western Cape Education Department.

Appropriate and recognised 3-year degree / diploma in video/film production from an accredited institution (DHET) related to the duties and responsibilities specified in the advert. Minimum two years proven, relevant experience in the film/video production industry/environment. Valid driver’s license (code EB). Own transport. Ability to speak two of the three official languages in the Western Cape.
Please Note: Short-listed candidates will be required to perform relevant competency tasks and provide a portfolio / showreel of work.
Project Management: Liaising and advising clients regarding video projects, including schedules and timelines. Will be required to work after hours and on weekends. Scripts: Writing and editing of scripts, storyboards, voice over dialogue and commentary. Production: Transporting and setting up equipment (including still/video cameras, audio and lighting equipment and live streaming equipment) for filming and photography on location. Post-Production: Storing and managing raw footage (incl. music). Compiling and editing of raw material into a finished product. The material may include camera and archival footage, photographs, voice overs, sound effects, graphics, titling and music. Providing client with finished product in required format.
Technical knowledge of configuration and operation of camera (video & still photography), audio, lighting, editing and associated production equipment for studio and/or location recordings. Thorough knowledge of editing: video, audio and still photography. Some experience of producing training videos. Knowledge of live streaming. Knowledge of maintenance of production equipment.
Good writing and editing skills (especially in English). Ability to create a storyboard and subsequent shot list. Ability to successfully execute a creative vision for projects. Good communication skills to direct actors (subjects) effectively and be able to put people at ease during filming. Experience in video (filming) and still photography. Essential computer skills (MAC platform) for video, audio and photo editing, using Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) software: Premiere Pro and Photoshop or Lightroom. Additional computer skills (MAC platform) for editing incl. Audition, After Effects; Character Animator / Animate. Open Broadcast Software (or similar screen recording and live streaming software) and Handbrake (or similar compression/conversion software). Good computer skills for admin work (Windows platform): MS Office software - MS Word, Excel, MS Powerpoint and MS Teams. Technical ability to troubleshoot issues with audio, video and editing equipment. Experience in setting up and transmission of live streaming events such as conferences and training will be an asset. Experience in drone photography will be an asset. Ability to work both in a team and without supervision. Good planning skills and being able to manage and drive a project. Sound administration skills. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure.
